I know it's hard to keep up with all your "To Do" lists when purchasing a home. Here are some crucial things you might not want to forget to do.

1) Set up your utilities for your new home in advance. If you close on a Friday, be sure to get the utility companies out to your home that same day since a lot of companies won't work on weekends.

2) Change the locks on your home. This is very important to do after you've moved in. You don't know who might still have a copy of your house keys...and that thought alone is quite scary.

3) Change the toilet seats....I don't think I need to explain much more...

4) Be sure to put in your change of address at the post office a few days before closing takes place. As long as you are confident that you are going to have a successful transaction, there should be no harm in this. (Check with your Realtor®)

5) Speaking of mail...where is your mailbox? If it's not in front of your house, what is your mailbox number? You can thank me later ;)

6) Make sure your house numbers are visible to your guests. It's already a new area for you and your family, make it easier on your guests to find your awesome new pad too!

7) Change out all air filters and furnace filters. This is just a good idea to do to start off your home maintenance on a positive note.

8) No one likes to think that bad things can happen in their home, but we have to be on the safe side at all times. Create an emergency exit strategy that suits you and your families needs.

9) Locate your breaker box and make sure that all power circuits are labeled for future outages. You can easily get this done with 3M Labels or even a little bit of tape & a Sharpie - be creative!

10) Send out "We've Moved" postcards/notes to family members & friends with a possible house warming party invitation attached. It's a great way to give your home the pergect grand opening with the people that you love!
