CFL Bulbs (No Brainer!)

Self-explanatory!

Unplug Electrical Items

Even though you might not be charging your phone, your outlet is still producing energy to bring electricity to your charger. It might seem petty, but it’s saving energy.

Add Solar Screens

You don’t even need to add the solar screens to all the windows on your exterior! Even adding them to the areas where the sun beams down most will work wonders on cooling your home down & your energy bill!

Blackout Curtains

Don’t fret my little fashionistas…this doesn’t mean that the curtains have to be black if your homes décor isn’t so “Kanye-esk”. There are blackout curtains of many different colors and shades. The curtains are going to keep the sun, heat and cold out of your home much better than your basic curtains. Once again, energy bill goes D O W N.

Make Your Garage E.E

Add radiant barrier insulation to the interior of your garage door (easy DIY!). If this is your “Man Cave”, go the extra mile and put a swamp cooler in there…you’ll thank me later.

Change Out Your Air Filters

Not only will this save your AC units from overworking themselves, you’ll have clean air and maybe even less allergies as the seasons change.

Prevent Air Leaks

You might not think of this one when it comes to saving energy, but it’s actually a big-ticket item!

• Adjust uneven doors

• Add draft stoppers to each entry door in the home

• Caulk/weather strip around doors and windows.

• Use foam gaskets and foam sealant for outlet covers/switch plates

Upgrade Windows to Double Paned

Double paned windows will help keep that energy bill down with controlling the interior temperature and preventing the exterior temperature from breaching. The upgrade isn’t the cheapest, but it’s a great one! Plus, it will make a difference when selling your home as well.

Use Basic Ice Trays

Automatic icemakers can increase a refrigerator’s energy consumption by more than 15%.
