If you’re not familiar with carnivorous plants, now’s the perfect time to gain a bit of knowledge about them. My fiancé and I recently took a trip to Northern California and came across this AWESOME conservation exhibit, California Carnivores. They hold the largest carnivorous plant nursery in the United States and have been caring for and selling these lovely creatures for over 25 years!

All plants are LIVE, but these babies actually react to movement.
You can literally see them open/close, it’s so cool! From Venus Flytraps to Tropical Pitcher plants, you can help control the amount of critters that are in and around your home.
Gnats? No problem. Flies? Tasty meal for the carnivores. Mosquito’s? Even better.
They have indoor and outdoor plants that are easy to grow and require very low maintenance.
(So don’t worry if you weren’t born with a green thumb!)
Since we visited the exhibit, we had the plants expedited to our home in Texas.
Apparently these plants thrive in the humid weather.
(of course, that’s where all our best friends are. And by “best friends”, I’m referring to bugs and MOST DEFINITELY meant that in a sarcastic manner! Icky.)
We were a little concerned that the plants wouldn’t be in the
best condition when we got them in the mail.
Let me tell ya, we are pleasantly surprised! It took a few days for them to get
acclimated and “de-stress”, but they are doing great!
Our Venus Flytrap actually caught his first meal yesterday…a mosquito!
(Mmmm..protein!)
Take a look at the up-close picture; you can actually see the legs of the mosquito sticking out of the closed trap! Too cool, right?

If you’re interested in getting your own plants or just want to check out their website, click here!
Once again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
